![]() After a period on ceremonial duties in London, he took his Battle Group (1,350 men) to Helmand in 2007 he was awarded an Operational OBE for leadership and vision in stabilizing and establishing Governance and security in the commercial capital of Gereshk and its environs. He became the Commanding Officer of the First Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters (a Battle Group of over 690 men) in Mazar-e- Sharif, Afghanistan in December 2004. On promotion to Lieutenant Colonel, he was selected to instruct at the Joint Services Command and Staff Course, training and selecting officers from all 3 of the Armed Forces for senior appointments across the Forces and Civil Service. After two years at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst as a Company Commander and Chief Instructor, he was posted to the Joint Force Headquarters and worked in the United States, West Africa, and Afghanistan in 2001/2002. Thereafter he was posted to HQ Allied Command Europe Rapid Reaction and ran Human Intelligence operations in Kosovo and Albania. He was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry and leadership during his time in Bosnia. He returned to his Regiment as a Company Commander (commanding 120 men) and served in Bosnia (under the United Nations) and in Northern Ireland (under the Police Service of Northern Ireland. He then spent 14 months as an instructor at the Northern Ireland Training and Advisory Team (UK) before going back to Northern Ireland for 18 months as a surveillance officer, in support of the Royal Ulster Constabulary and Police Service of Northern Ireland. Richard was commissioned from Sandhurst in April 1984 into the Royal Welch Fusiliers, an Infantry Battalion, and served with them as a officer between 19 in Northern Ireland on Military Aid to the Civil Powers operations, Great Britain and Berlin. ![]() He also works in performance development and coaching to a diverse clientele which has included the GB Yachting team, the Housing Executive of UK, the English RFU, Southampton FC Academy, UK Sport, Sport England, Athletics England, GB Wheelchair Basketball, England Women’s Hockey and Loughborough Elite Performance Directors. ![]() Richard joined IDG as their Director International in June 2018, after a long relationship with the company since 2000, as a keynote speaker. ![]() He joined New Century in 2012 as Director of Programme Development, designing and delivering specialised Police, Military and Intelligence training to Governments globally in Africa and Central Asia, and counter- poaching advisory training in Africa. After leaving the Army in 2010, Richard was the Sales and Marketing Director for Thales (Managed Services). ![]()
